University students block Airport access roads
University students have blocked the roads leading to and out of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to protest failure of the Federal Government to resolve the lingering strike of Academic Staff Union of University(ASUU).
Travellers who did not leave home early missed the early morning flights while those who came late were seen carrying their luggage on their heads walking to the Airport as a result of the blockade.
The Police were positioned to maintain law and order and also to ensure that unscrupulous people do not hijack the process.
Last week, the Nigerian university students blocked the Lagos Ibadan Expressway and Ibadan Ife Expressway during which they indicated their intention to barricade access roads to all the nation’s major airports in a bid to make the government to bring to an end the imbroglio between it and the University teachers.
It will be recalled that the University academics staff embarked on the strike since February this year for failure of the government to honour the agreements it signed with the lecturers since 2009.
