Despite the  escalating cost of equipment, their spare parts, inflation, foreign exchange,Skyway Aviation Handling Company(SAHCO) continues   to deliver value to its stakeholders, shareholders, clients, airlines across over 22 networks, locations, as of today.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company Mrs.Adenike Aboderin stated while speaking with aviation journalists in Lagos.

She disclosed that SAHCO has  the vision of being the leading brand handling company in West Africa and even beyond West Africa, sub-Saharan Africa.

On Gross profits:” we had an increase of 47 percent to $18 billion. Last year it was $12 billion. Profit before tax, we had an increase of 82 percent to $10 billion for $5.5 billion last year.”

“So that’s a 2 percent growth. Profit before tax, 83 percent growth from $4.6 billion to $8 billion. Our total assets increased from $40 billion to $57.1 billion, representing a 31 percent growth.”

She said the Company  invested heavily in assets, infrastructure, and also equipment, green equipments, sustainable equipments. We’re trying to make sure that our aged equipments are being  phased   out gradually while more are being acquired.

“We had financial resilience and growth by strategically investing in operational excellence, efficiency  , technological infrastructure, and sustainable partnerships with our stakeholders, the airlines, the agents, and the regulatory bodies.”

“ We’ve started the e-billing. So just to improve faster processing, bills are sent electronically, and payment is also made electronically. We’ve set up a new department called the Resource Allocators Department so that there’s efficiency in utilising our scarce resources and few resources, both brick and mortar equipments and people resources.”

Mrs. Aboderin told newsmen that those resource allocations is to improve efficiency, to reduce costs, and to bring out operational excellence.

“We’ve developed an in-house flight app. We’ve developed a budget app.

Now we stick  strictly to budget performance. We monitor that monthly. So we have an app that guides us.”

“That’s why you see a lot of efficiency on the financial side. Document software. And we’ve just gone into cyber security to strengthen our controls and to safeguard our software.”

“And due to that, we’ve been able to do strategic cost saving of 27% year-on-year in cost. For streamlining and standardisation, we all know we are in a regulatory environment. And I’m proud to say that SAHCO  has the most certifications of all handlers.”

“Currently, we make sure we’re on top-notch in all our certifications and standards and compliance, both at IATA and also on the cargo side. We have SAHCO certified in  headquarters here, Lagos Airport, Abuja Airport, Kano, and Port Harcourt.

“On RE3, which is for cargo security, we have certifications in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja. And we’re currently doing an upgrade again because of the new TSA regulations by the government. We were the first to get all the machines that the TSA requested.”

“And they’re currently there, and more are coming. Our dangerous goods authorisation, we just renewed that. And we have some staff going to Singapore to get trained.”

“They’re going this week. Again, it’s just a renewal. Whenever your certification is renewed, your people have to also go for re-certification.”

Speaking on ISO Environment Management System,She noted that all of them have been renewed, and are  upgrading them. “And our training school has just gotten approval.

“We’re going into a partnership with some African countries on training. I don’t want to divulge yet. So we’re going to start opening our training school for commercialised trainings, aviation-related.”

“So people will come in for not just handling, but even checking in, the baggage handling, both air and land side trainings. So people, instead of going to outside the country, based on that partnership, what we plan is that they’ll come and be trained here. So we’re building a new training school, larger than the one we have here.”
