Lagos Airport cargo terminal falls short of standard, says ex-Managing Director of aviation handling company

One time Managing Director of Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited,Dr.Olu Owolabi has described the Cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos as the worst in the world.

He made this known while speaking with news men in Lagos.

“Go to the cargo area, they sell cars there and all manners of businesses are going on there. You see crowd of people trooping to the place  everyday that one cannot ascertain their mission.”

He said that the presence of fuel tankers at the Airport constitute threat to the safety and security of the place.

According to him,if there is accident where the tankers cluster, the whole airport will be engulfed in fire.

“This is the only place in the world where you have oil tankers at the airport.”

On hotels springing up around the airport,he asks:who are the owners of these hotels, who gave the approval for the construction?

Accessing the performance of the Minister of Aviation,Barrister Festus Keyamo, said he is doing well using his knowledge of the law to resolve many legal cases that militated against the progress of the sector and also tended to dent Nigeria’s image.

Speaking on the beaten up of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s security officer by a Customs officer at the Lagos Airport,Owolabi said:”The Customs officer should loose his job.FAAN is the custodian of security at the Airport. The Police are there to assist FAAN.Customs is custodian of cargo, wherehouse, luggage, ensure contrabands do not enter Nigeria

He gave kudos to Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, chairman of SAHCOL for his patriotism by investing in Nigeria.According to him, there are other Nigerians that are wealthier than Afolabi who prefer to take their money to foreign banks that do not contribute to the development of Nigeria’s economy.

Owolabi stated that many Nigerians are eke out their living through gainful employment by companies established by Barrister Afolabi.
