Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun is actualizing the pledge he has made to the people of the State when he assumed office that he will never abandon any projects started by his predecessors so long as the indigene will be the greatest beneficiaries.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy,Abdulwaheed Odusile who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen at the multi billion nair project site of the state’sGateway Agro Cargo Airport said the project was started by former Governor Gbenga Daniel’s administration in 2007.

“He  (Gbenga Daniel) acquired the site but he did not put a single block down.Governor Dapo Abiodun took it over from the scratch to where it is today and I can assure you it is going to be completed before the end of this year.”

Asked if there are enough manpower to man the Control Tower, he said the  Federal Government agency responsible for Air Traffic Control is following the development of the five storey building control tower.He noted that the State Government is ready to support any indigene of the state that wants to study any course  in aviation including air traffic control.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastucture, Ade Akinsanya explained that the terminal building will marvel you.”We are building Airport City(Aerotropolis).There are many agencies of government showing their interests to be here such as the Nigerian Air Force,Nigerian Immigration Service,the Customs,Quarantine and many more.”

“In this Airport,there is going to be international testing centre for all agro produce for export.I do not know of any airport in this country where such facilities for certification of aggro produce are installed”.

“Ogun State land is very fertile.Anything you plant on it grows.In addition,most industries in  Nigeria are in the State so exporting will be easier for them.”

“Logistic companies are also indicating their willingness to register their presence in the Ogun State Agro Cargo Airport vicinity because of its easy accessibility from Lagos,south south,south east and the norther part of the country.”

He told newsmen that the Airport is centrally located that it can be accessed from  different parts of Ogun State.noting that”accessibility cannot be rivaled anywhere.”

He said the State Government is planning to take over the construction and maintenance of the Lagos-Abeokuta Express Way to ease movement.

The works commissioner gave the length of the runway that is 85-90% completed to be 4 kilometers on the 5000 hectres of land acquired for the construction of the Airport.

“From start,we have done the perimeter fence.It circles the whole airport with security road round.All the key aviation agencies are following our development.Airfield lighting is programmed into what we have done.We are not working in a vacuum.”

Akinsanya explained the Airport has two terminals,cargo and passengers,He said the cargo apron can accommodate four largest cargo aircraft at the same time while that of the passenger is designed to process thousands of arriving and departing travelers at the same time.
