The Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission  (FCCPC) has expressed concerned about the experiences of air travelers.

The Commission indicated that it data shows a significant increase in complaints related to unfair pricing, delays, cancellations

without refund, poor service delivery and inadequate redress mechanisms.

In its goodwill message to the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents(LAAC) on its 28th edition annual conference, head of Lagos office of the Commission,Susie Onwuka also raised  concerns about anti competitive practices in the aviation industry.

She noted that anti competitive practices not only harm consumers but also stifle innovation and hinder industry growth.

To address issues in the aviation industry, she said  the FCCPC is actively engaged in investigations,

consumer and business education, and providing redress to consumer complaints.

Regardless,  she stated that the FCCPC  believes that it is only a dynamic and fully competitive aviation industry that

can deliver affordable and high-quality air travel services to the Nigerian public.

“We are therefore eager and look forward to collaborating with industry players and

regulatory agencies to identify and address consumer issues and anti-competitive practices, that may impede the sector’s development. Let us work together to build a sustainable and

consumer-centric aviation industry,she stated

The FCCPC’s head of Lagos office commends the organisers of the conference for creating a platform to address the aviation industry’s challenges and explore strategies for sustainable growth.

She holds the view that the aviation sector is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy,

significantly impacting trade, tourism, and overall development.
