Ex-DGNCAA calls for renegotiation of BASA

Former Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA) Dr.Harold Demuren has called for the renegotiation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement Nigeria had signed with some countries.
Demuren made the call while speaking at a seminar on:” of Nigerian Carriers on London Route” organized bySAPTCO COMMUNICATION LIMITED at NCAA annex at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
According to him, it is imperative for Nigeria to take a critical look at these agreements because the country is not getting the benefits from them.
“The best time is now that we have a minister that knows the law.You cannot be wrong supporting your own”.The BASAs as they are now,in his view are not totally favourable to Nigeria.
He supports the call to enact Fly Nigeria Act which will compel government funded trips patronize Nigeria airlines,advising that Nigerian airlines need to cooperate and interline to ease some of the problems faced by passengers.
The former NCAA Director General admonished Nigerian airline to response timely to any challenges they are having.Failure to do so potrays such airline in badlight.
He said airline staff that have regular contact with passengers should be extra friendly,courteous.”Train your staff how to be courteous to passengers.Nigerian passengers are sophiscated.They know their rights.
Demuren urged Air Peace to have good relationship with Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development also the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and obey the rules.
