Members of the Aviators Circle were taken on a guided facility tour to 7Star Global Maintenance Hangar and the Control Tower of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos as part of their continuous learning process and skill sharing peogramme

The tour afforded members the experience and opportunity to see first-hand what aircraft maintenance and air traffic control are all about.

Members drawn from different professional background in the aviation industry were welcomed into 7Star by the Safety Manager, Engr Sheri Kyari. He took members round the hangar and gave an in-depth explanation of what aircraft maintenance is all about.

He was later joined by the Managing Director of 7Star Global Hangar, Engr. Daniel Ameh who reiterate the importance of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul(MRO) as it concerns aircraft safety.

Afterwards, members were taken to the Control Tower of the Murtala Mohammed Airport where the Air Traffic Operations Manager(ATOM), Mr Chris was on hand to welcome them  and took members through the procedures to access the Control Tower.

While at the Tower, members were able to see the panoramic view of the whole Airport, and also see both the takeoff and landing of aircrafts on the two runways.

The Controller on duty, who is also a member of the Aviators Circle, Miss Olamide took her time to explain the processes involved in air traffic separation between aircrafts in the airspace, and separation between aircraft and objects in the movement area within the airport

 

Her explanation shows the critical position of Air Traffic Controllers as far as Safety and Security of flight operations are concerned. While passengers focuses on pilots for their safety, pilots also rely heavily on traffic advisory and separation from the Air traffic controllers so as to have a smooth and safe flight operations.
