In another significant demonstration of its commitment to career advancement, professional excellence and indigenous capacity development, West and Central Africa’s largest airline, Air Peace Limited, has elevated two of its accomplished Senior First Officers (SFOs), Felix Adebambo and Emmanuel Adeniji, to the prestigious rank of Captain on its Embraer 195-E2 fleet.

The milestone decoration ceremony, held at the airline’s corporate headquarters in Lagos, was graced by the Chairman/CEO, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema; Director of Flight Operations, Capt. James Onipe; Head of Training, Capt. Gerald Udaya; and family members of the newly promoted Captains.

Setting the tone for the ceremony, Capt. Onipe highlighted the impressive career trajectories of both officers, acknowledging their accumulated flight experience, exceptional performance during training and successful completion of the rigorous assessments required for their elevation.

He noted that their promotion was a testament to their technical competence, discipline and readiness to assume the greater responsibilities of aircraft command.

Reinforcing this position, Capt. Udaya underscored the importance of strict adherence to operational procedures, sound judgment and an uncompromising commitment to safety, reminding the officers that the privilege of command comes with an even greater responsibility to protect lives and uphold the airline’s operational standards.

The ceremony reached its defining moment with the decoration of both officers with their Captain epaulettes, symbolising their transition from Senior First Officers to aircraft commanders.

In their remarks, the newly decorated Captains expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman, Management and their instructors for their mentorship, investment and confidence in their abilities.

Capt. Emmanuel Adeniji, who proudly described himself as an “Air Peace Baby,” reflected on his remarkable journey with the airline, which began when Air Peace sponsored his flight training. He described his elevation as the fulfillment of a long-held ambition and a testament to the airline’s commitment to nurturing talent from the classroom to the cockpit.

Similarly, Capt. Felix Adebambo recounted his transition from Aero Contractors to Air Peace, describing his experience as immensely rewarding. He particularly acknowledged the airline’s impressive growth trajectory, sustained fleet acquisitions and expanding opportunities for professional development.

Both Captains pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them through professionalism, discipline and exemplary leadership.

Delivering his congratulatory address, Dr. Onyema expressed immense pride in the officers for attaining the pinnacle of their flying careers at a relatively young age. He emphasised that while technical proficiency earns a pilot the privilege of command, character, integrity and leadership ultimately determine how far an individual progresses.

“Character is everything. Character can take you to places you never imagined. How you handle leadership, both within and outside the cockpit, will determine the altitude you attain in life,” he remarked.

The Chairman further reiterated Air Peace’s uncompromising safety philosophy, cautioning the newly decorated Captains against unnecessary heroics or decisions that could jeopardise lives.

“We don’t want heroics in aircraft. If, in your best judgment, an aircraft is not serviceable or the weather conditions are unfavourable, don’t fly. Nobody will force you to compromise safety. In aviation, what we preach above everything else is safety,” Dr. Onyema emphasised.

He assured the officers of Management’s unwavering support for decisions genuinely taken in the interest of safety, while urging them to uphold honesty, sound judgment and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

Concluding his remarks, the Chairman congratulated both Captains and their families, encouraging them to lead by example, remain grounded in good character and embrace their new responsibilities with humility and professionalism.

The double elevation further underscores Air Peace’s sustained investment in human capital development, reinforcing its commitment to building a highly skilled indigenous pilot workforce while creating meaningful pathways for career progression within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
