A video of a pilot’s sweet gesture toward a passenger traveling for her wedding has gone viral on TikTok.
The moment was captured in a clip shared by the bride-to-be, Jordan Giorgio . She is a television host and reporter, according to her bio on TikTok and Instagram. The video has garnered more than 4.6 million views since it was shared.
A message overlaid on the clip reads: “Traveling to Italy for my wedding & this bad*** woman pilot insisted on putting my dress in the cockpit with her and buckling it up.”
The footage shows the female pilot standing next to the wedding dress, which is stored inside a garment bag. The clothes item is strapped into a seat behind the pilot’s seat with a seat belt.
As the pilot looks at the camera, a voice in the clip says, “You’re so cute, thank you…” before the video ends. A caption shared with the post reads: “This pilot deserves a raise.”
There is an ongoing pilot shortage as the industry struggles to keep up with the demand for air travel, which has returned to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels.
Last year, Faye Malarkey Black, the president and CEO of the Regional Airline Association, warned a U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee about “the coming tsunami of pilot retirements.”
She added that “over the next 15 years, nearly 50 percent of the commercial airline workforce will be forced to retire because they will reach the age of 65. CardBlack said at the time that 2,225 pilots must retire, adding that “required retirements will peak in 2029 at 3,750, when pilots aged 58 today turn 65” and “thereafter, retirements remain high, staying above 2023’s rate for the foreseeable future.”
Boeing’s pilot and technician outlook report for 2023-2042 said the industry will need 649,000 new pilots to replace the aging workforce and maintain the global commercial fleet over the next 20 years.
‘So Thoughtful’
TikTok users praised the pilot in the latest viral clip.
