Rector Aviation College absolves Governor of bias

The Rector of the International Aviation College(IAC) Ilorin,Capt.Yakubu Okatahi has absolved Kwara State Governor,AbdulRahman  AbdulRazaq of playing politics with the Institution.

He made the explanation while interacting with aviation journalists who were on a one week training programme at the College.

According to him, there was never a time the Governor demonstrated lack of commitment towards the International Aviation College because it was established by his predecessor who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

“The Government has made money available to us to settle our debt and also to procure some facilities for the College. The Government pays our salary and subvention. We request for money which the Governor gave us to buy spare parts for the aircraft.”

Capt.Okatahi, while acknowledging the support of the Kwara State Government, said the College still needs Three hundred million(300m) to fix its training aircraft that are defective as a result of accidents.

According to the Rector, the school under his leadership is not resting on its oar as it is looking outside the box to shore up its revenue.

Towards this end,”we are trying to get entrepreneurs to come to the aid of the College by sponsoring some students in the various courses.”

He disclosed that more courses like Engineering, Cabin Crew,Despatcher and crew training.

Cap.Okatahi further explained that initially when the College was established”,there was money. The Government could carry the whole responsibilities”

He also lamented the inability of the school to procure foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“We do not get our foreign exchange from the CBN.We get our forex from the second tier market that is very expensive. By the time we convert the subvention to hard currency that is needed to meet some of our training requirements, it is no longer enough.”

The International Aviation College has graduated forty five students in the last five months.
