ARIK AIR,AVIATION WORKERS UNIONS ON WAR PATH
National Union of Air Transport Employees(NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) have given notice of withdrawal of their services as from Monday,September 14,2020.
The Unions indicated that the withdrawal of their service was eelier scheduled for August 17,2020,but following dialogue with Minister of Labour and Employment,the plan was shelved.
“Unfortunately and regrettably, the management of Arik Air took advantage of our peaceful disposition to continually frustrate our efforts to resolve the condition of service negotiation as well as our demand for just and fair treatment.”
According to a press release signed by Ocheme Aba,General Secretary NUATE and Frances Akinjole,General Secretary ATSSSAN,all the workers of Airline except pilots and engineers are to withdraw their services on the agreed date.
The two unions stated that when the issues are resolved, the workers will go back to their normal service.
Information reaching this publication indicated the Arik Air is reaching out to the government to intervene. If it gets the backing of the federal government, the planned withdrawal of service maybe suspended.
