Safety Achievement tied to implementation of recommendations
The enviable safety records of the West African Sub-Region’s flying sector are tied to implementations of safety recommendations dished out by the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency(BAGAIA). Commissioner heading the Agency,Engr.Charles Irikefe Erhueh made this known while speaking at the end of the Technical Committee(T2) that took place in Accra Ghana put together by BAGAIA. ” We know other countries in the region will take a cue to strengthen BAGAIA. in the long run, all the training we do, the equipment we procure and benefits accruable are measured in terms of hull loses and other major accidents.” According to him, the sub region’s zero accident record is a result of implementing safety recommendations dished out by BAGAIA and other investigative, independent Accident investigation agencies working together to avoid disaster. Erhueh commended the completion of harmonizing the agencies’ policies and procedures manual. He said this would enable them work seamlessly noting that the same policies and procedures are what entails all over the subregion. . ” That statistics of zero accidents will not be possible if BAGAIA and other independent agencies’ safety recommendations are not taken into account and we hope the kind of partnership formed along the sun region will reduce incidents and accidents and improve travel as well as remove members from various blacklists and reduce insurance premiums because of the safety of the skies”. Speaking On the work the technical committee that has been completed he said,” So far, we have been able to harmonize our policies and procedured manual.” In his closing remarks,Commissioner AIB-Ghana, Mr. Prempeh Akwasi Agyeibi, thanked BAGAIA for it’s support and expressed appreciation for picking Ghana as the host for the technical committee meeting of the regional agency. |
